Baseball Ready To Face Post University

The American International College baseball team travels down to Waterbury, Connecticut, for a non-conference matchup against the Post Eagles on Thursday, March 30at 3:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:The Yellow Jackets played two doubleheaders as they took on Assumption College and Merrimack College at Trinity Stadium in Haverhill, Massachusetts, going 1-3.

The Yellow Jackets saw better success in game two against the Greyhounds, scoring first in the second inning with three runs. Trent Dillon reached base on a sacrifice bunt attempt that scoredEugene Quirkfrom third base for the first run of the game.K.J. Whitefollowed up later in the inning with a two-RBI single that scoredJosh Avilesand Dillon to make it a 3-0 game.

White stuck again in the fourth inning with a two RBI double to center field to score Seymour and Aviles, pushing the Yellow Jacket lead to five. The last three runs were scored by AIC in the sixth inning, withMatt Krausegetting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Aviles.Mike Wrothadded the cherry on top for AIC, with a two-RBI ground-rule double that brought home White and Seymour. The contest was called after the top of the seventh due to thick fog rolling in.

Jason Coscio(1-1) pitched all seven innings for AIC as he picked up his first win of the year. In the win, Coscio let up only two hits, two walks, and struck out six batters.

LAST TIME THEY MET: Chris Starcunwent 3-for-4 with four runs batted in to help lift AIC to an 11-5 victory over Post University on March 22, 2016, at Bedard Field.

Down 5-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth, AIC finally got on the board in a big way, sending 13 hitters to the plate while scoring nine runs for the 9-5 lead.

Starcun tagged a two-run doubled to the gap in right center and later scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring before four straight free-passes led to another run for the Jackets asAlex LaFayette touched home.Reed Phillipsalso crossed home off a bases-loaded walk two batters later before a run scored after Karl Kapinoswas struck by a pitch.

Starcun then stepped back up with the bases loaded and cleared them with one swing of the bat on a slow tapper out in front of the plate which the pitcher threw past the bag at first up the right field line, allowing all three runners to cross home.

The Yellow Jackets added insurance in the eighth as Starcun plated a run with a single before LaFayette laced a double to the gap in left to score another for the 11-5 final.


SCOUTING THE EAGLES: Post University is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Goldey-Beacom College, defeating them 10-5 and 2-0. AIC will be the first visitors to Post this year, as the Eagles are 2-1-1 on the road and 3-9 on neutral ground. Four Eagles already have north of 15 hits, with a 20-hit player already in the ranks through 16 games. Don Walsh has been clobbering the ball for the Eagles, with eight home runs already recorded to his name. Walsh also leads the team with 10 RBI.

NEXT UP:The Yellow Jackets host Le Moyne College for a three-game series this weekend, with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 and the final game on Sunday, April 2.
