Softball drops pair to Eagles to wrap up Florida trip

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida - The American International College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip in Florida with a doubleheader against the Eagles of Embry-Riddle. The Eagles, who have played 28 games compared to AIC's eight, swept the Yellow Jackets 5-0 and 3-0. T

he Yellow Jackets' first runner of the day came in the first inning when Keymell Cartwright slapped a hard grounder back to the pitcher and beat out the throw after a bobble. Through the first three and a half innings, the teams combined for three hits, one error, and four left on base.

The Eagles changed the scoreboard in their half of the third. Embry-Riddle took advantage of three hits and a Yellow Jacket error to push three around the bases. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the first game, 5-0.

The second game was a pitchers' duel as the two teams combined for only seven hits in the first 33 outs. It was the bottom of the sixth when Embry-Riddle pushed some runs across on four hits. The first Eagle up to the plate in a shot to left field and turned on the burners as she ended up just 60 feet from home. After a strikeout and a walk, the Eagles changed their zero to a one to take the lead. They would push two more across the plate as they went on to win, 3-0. The Yellow Jackets will return to action on March 22 when they host St. Rose at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
