CLERMONT, Florida- The American International College softball team wrapped up their neutral site games in Florida this morning as they played two against the Lions of Molloy. The Yellow Jackets dropped both games by scores of 10-1 and 3-2.
In the first game, AIC jumped on board first in the bottom half of the first inning.
Jamie Mainez knocked a one out double to right center, the first Yellow Jacket hit of the game.
Alexa DiLeo hit a hard grounder to the shortstop who couldn't field it cleanly as Mainez came around and touched the plate.
Molloy started stringing hits together in the top half of the fifth when Banulski doubled to left field. The Lions took advantage of back-to-back AIC fielding errors to load the bases. The Lions ended up pushing seven runs across to before the Yellow Jackets caught a Lion stealing to end the half inning.
Molloy added three more runs in the top of the seventh to give them the 10-1 lead.
Just like the first game, the Yellow Jackets pushed the first run across in the second inning. Mainez led things off with a full count walk.
Kayla Riley hit into a fielder's choice to give AIC a runner at first. Dileo sent the first pitch she saw over the left field fence to give the Yellow Jackets the 2-0 lead on the first AIC home run of the season.
In the bottom of the third inning the Lions found their way on the board on two hits, one AIC error, while leaving two left on base. With runners on first and second, Botte doubled to centerfield and drove in two. Russo's hit to second forced an AIC error and score Botte to give them the 3-2 lead. Neither team had a player circle the bases after that point, as Molloy swept the day with the 3-2 win.
The Yellow Jackets will play two more in Florida before returning home on Wednesday. They will take on Embry-Riddle at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. tomorrow, March 14
th.
