Ice hockey draws with Army on Senior Night

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College ice hockey team tied Army West Point, 1-1, on Thursday, February 23, at the MassMutual Center in AIC's final home game of the season.

AIC moves to 7-18-8 overall, breaking the school's record for most ties in a season, with a 6-14-7 mark in Atlantic Hockey play. Army West Point moves to 17-11-5 overall and 15-9-3 in AHC play.

Prior to the contest, the Yellow Jackets recognized their two seniors, defenseman Carson Grolla and left wing and captain Austin Orszulak, for Senior Night.

Army opened the scoring at 8:44 of the first period when C.J. Reuschlein got on the board. It was the first time in the season series that a goal had been scored before the final ten minutes of regulation, and marked his fourth goal of the season.

The game remained tight through the second and third, but AIC was able to break through with 8:36 remaining when Janis Jaks scored his fourth of the year off a pretty wrist shot from the top of the left circle. Assists on the goal were credited to sophomore defenseman Johnny Mueller and freshman center Hugo Reinhardt.

The Jackets and Black Knights would skate to a tie in regulation 1-1, with both teams having key chances to score, both Zackarias Skog and Cole Bruns made critical saves to keep the stalemate intact for the extra frame.

AIC will conclude its regular season with a visit to Tate Rink in West Point, New York, to close out the series with Army on Saturday, February 25. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
