U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colorado - The American International College ice hockey team fell to the No. 20 Air Force Academy, 5-0, on Friday evening at the Cadet Ice Arena.
AIC falls to 7-18-6 on the year with a 6-14-5 conference mark. Air Force improves to 19-8-4 and 16-5-2 in league play.
Freshman Zackarias Skog got the start in net and recorded 34 saves, moving to 4-10-4 on the year. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, sent 17 shots at Shane Starrett, who improved to 18-4-3, adding to his Atlantic Hockey lead in wins.
Four Yellow Jackets recorded multiple shots on goal: freshman Nicolas Luka, senior captain Austin Orszulak, freshman Blake Christensen and sophomore Marc Dubeau each had two. Luka also had three blocked shots on the evening.
The Falcons got on the board early with a tally from A.J. Reid just 1:06 into the first period. Eight and a half minutes later, Evan Feno made it a 2-0 game. They added two more by the 12:30 mark of the in the second to push the lead to four goals.
A nice glove save by Skog kept the lead at 4-0 with 9:39 to go, but Erik Baskin added a shorthanded goal for Air Force at the 8:25 mark of the third to give the team a 5-0 lead.
AIC and Air Force will conclude the series at 5:05 p.m. MST on Saturday.
