HOW IT HAPPENED:
- AIC started off the contest by going on an 8-3 run, followed by a three-pointer from Adelphi's Jess Camarda to make it 8-6. The Yellow Jackets answered right back with a triple of their own from junior guard Alyssa Guyon. After neither team scored for the next 2:55 of the first quarter, Guyon hit a jumper and then the Panthers' Niajah Morgan connected on a jumper of her own. Sophomore guard Rashana Siders then extended the AIC lead with a triple to make it 18-10. Morgan then made a layup as time expired to cut the deficit and have the score at 18-12 at the end of the quarter.
- The Yellow Jackets opened up the second quarter by getting consecutive threes from Siders and Guyon to increase the lead to 24-12. Up 27-20 with 3:56 left in the half, freshman guard Nyrie Holliman drilled a triple to put the Yellow Jackets up 30-20 with 4:49 remaining in the second quarter. With a 32-24 advantage with 3:11 left in the half, junior forward Dana Watts made a layup to give AIC another double-digit lead. At the 2:31 mark of the second quarter, freshman guard Ishanna Brown drained a jumper to give the Yellow Jackets a 36-26 lead at the break.
- Watts got the scoring going to begin the third quarter with two straight field goals to give AIC its biggest lead of the contest thus far at 14 points. Back-to-back layups from Siders and Watts put the Yellow Jackets up 50-35 over the Panthers at the 3:08 mark of the third quarter. AIC was able to get the biggest lead it would have in the entire game, at 17 points, when it scored the final three baskets of the quarter to be up 56-39.
- Adelphi worked on closing the gap with a three-pointer from Emily Miccile, followed by a jumper from Simone Hobdy and another trifecta from Julia Strachan to cut the deficit to 11. After a layup from Watts gave the Yellow Jackets a comfortable 67-54 lead with 3:58 left in regulation, the Panthers went on a 13-3 run to cut the deficit to 70-67. With 36 ticks remaining in the game, Fallyn Stephens hit a three to tie it up. The game would be decided when Adelphi in-bounded the ball with 0.9 seconds left and Miccile made a layup as time expired to give the Panthers the 72-70 victory.
