HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Down 6-0 to start the contest, junior guard Alyssa Guyon put AIC on the board with a three-pointer. With an 8-4 Bridgeport lead, freshman guard Ishanna Brown made a layup, followed by a triple from sophomore guard Nadia Wooten to give the Yellow Jackets the early 9-8 advantage. As the Purple Knights had a 19-16 lead with 1:46 left in the first quarter, AIC proceeded to go on a 5-0 run to end the quarter up 21-19.
  • The second quarter started off with Bridgeport getting two consecutive baskets, followed by another three from Guyon to allow the Yellow Jackets to retake the lead. With 5:06 remaining in the half, AIC once again found itself down, but Wooten connected from behind the arc to be back up 29-28.Down 34-31 with a minute to play in the quarter, Guyon drew a foul and hit a pair of free throws to have the Yellow Jackets behind just one point at the break.
  • AIC began the third quarter red hot as it went on a 12-0 run in the first 2:43 of the quarter to have a comfortable 45-34 lead. A jumper from Guyon at the 3:36 mark increased the lead to nine points, yet the Purple Knights would make back-to-back field goals to cut the lead to five points. A jumper from Brown would make it 49-42 AIC to end the third quarter.
  • At the 5:17 mark of the fourth quarter, a layup from Bridgeport's Morgen Caution put the score at 53-50 Yellow Jackets. After both teams went on a scoring drought for 2:44, another layup from Caution brought the Purple Knights within just one point of the lead. Up 58-56 with 11 seconds left in the game, AIC forced Bridgeport to take a timeout. After Yellow Jacket freshman guard Jayla McDuffie missed a free throw with four seconds left, Guyon had an offensive rebound and drew the foul. Guyon then hit both free throws to seal a 60-56 win for AIC.
