SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team knocked off No. 24 ranked University of the Sciences, 72-62, on the first day of the Saint Rose Christmas Tournament on Saturday, December 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Down 9-4 early into the contest, AIC sank two consecutive three-pointers from Rashana Siders and Alyssa Guyon to go up 10-9. Tied at 12-all with 2:28 left in the first quarter, Ishanna Brown nailed a triple to give the Yellow Jackets a 15-12 lead. After University of the Sciences made one of two free throws, AIC had a 15-13 advantage after one quarter of play.
- The Yellow Jackets started the second-quarter scoring with a layup from Dana Watts, but the Devils scored three straight points to cut the deficit to one. With a one-point lead and 5:41 left in half, Siders connected on a jumper followed by a jumper from Jayla McDuffie to increase the AIC edge to 26-21. Going on a 10-2 run, the Yellow Jackets were able to earn their biggest lead of the game to that point, up 13 points with 1:42 remaining in the second quarter. University of the Sciences then hit a triple to put the score at 36-26 in favor of AIC at halftime.
- Up 40-30 at the 5:53 mark in the third quarter, Watts made two layups to give the Yellow Jackets a 14-point cushion. After the Devils hit a three to cut the AIC lead to 11, both teams were unable to score a field goal for 2:41 until Guyon made a layup to go up 46-33 after three quarters.
- The Yellow Jackets started off the fourth quarter by getting first three points to expand the advantage to 16 points, but then the Devils' Jordan Vitelli hit a three to put the score at 52-36. With 4:38 remaining in the contest, Watts made a layup to put AIC up 12 points. After Alex Thomas made a jumper to cut the deficit by two, the University of the Sciences took a 30-second timeout with 52 seconds left in the contest. Out of the timeout, Brown was fouled and made both free throws to make it 71-59 AIC. The Yellow Jackets would hit a final free throw and secure a 72-62 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- The Yellow Jackets had four players score in double figures on Saturday afternoon, marking the third time they have done so this season.
- Watts' double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds is the eighth time the junior has done so this season. Watts leads the NE10 in scoring at 21.1 points per game and is fifth in rebounds at 9.7 per game.
- Guyon's 10 points on Saturday now gives her 10 games where she has scored in double figures, which leads the team.
