HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior guard Alyssa Guyon was responsible for the Yellow Jackets' first five points as they held a 5-3 lead just 2:49 into the first quarter. Up 11-7 after a jumper from junior point guard Jayda Gilmore, the Owls made two straight baskets to tie the contest up at 11. Gilmore then hit another jumper in the paint to give the lead back to AIC, 13-11, at the end of the quarter.
- The Yellow Jackets were able to start the second quarter out strong by converting on two field goals to extend the lead to six points. At the 5:47 mark of the second quarter, AIC was able to earn its largest lead thus far at 23-13, when sophomore guard Nadia Wooten drilled a three-pointer. After that basket, Southern Connecticut took control of the rest of the quarter by going on a 16-7 run to be down just one point to the Yellow Jackets at the break.
- On the first possession of the third quarter for AIC, freshman guard Ishanna Brown drained a triple to give the Yellow Jackets a 33-29 lead. Tied at 34 all, Guyon made a layup to take the lead, but then the Owls scored four consecutive points to have a 38-34 advantage. Down 41-39 with under a minute to play in the quarter, Guyon made a pair of free throws to have the game tied once again heading into the fourth quarter.
- AIC began the fourth quarter by scoring five straight points to have a 46-41 lead. Southern Connecticut then proceeded to connect on two baskets to cut that deficit to one point. After a three-pointer and then two layups, the Owls took their biggest lead of the game at 55-50 with 4:12 left in regulation. Down 59-57 with 15 seconds remaining in the game, junior forward Dana Watts drew a foul and knocked down both free throws to tie the game at 59 and head into overtime.
- After the two teams traded baskets to start the overtime, Watts was responsible for a 5-0 AIC run to go up 66-61. With a 69-65 lead and 1:05 left in overtime, Siders hit a jumper to extend the advantage.
