SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team hosted the Setters of Pace in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup, coming up short in a 65-55 decision on Wednesday, November 29.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Down 6-2 with 5:47 left in the first quarter, AIC was able to get their first field goal of the game with a layup from Dana Watts to make it 6-4. Two consecutive layups from Jayla Mcduffie and Watts put the contest at 8 apiece. After a three-pointer and a layup from Pace, Watts connected on a jumper to have the Yellow Jackets down just 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.
- AIC was able to get their first goal of the second quarter off a layup from Ishanna Brown to cut the deficit to one. The Yellow Jackets continued to cut the Setter's lead to one point when Watts made a layup with 3:52 remaining in the second quarter. But, in the span of 2:52, Pace went on a 6-0 run to add their lead to 23-16. The Yellow Jackets then fought back by getting four straight points from Watts to be down just three points at the half.
- After a jumper from Brown cut the lead to one point, a Watts layup on a fastbreak gave AIC the 24-23 lead with 8:24 left in the third quarter. That was the Yellow Jackets first lead since the 9:41 mark of the first quarter when they were up 1-0. Tied at 26 with 5:25 left in the quarter, the Setters went on a 7-0 run in the span of 1:57 to put the score at 33-26. Minutes later, another layup from Watts cut the Pace lead to one point, but the Setters pulled away again by going on an 8-1 run to end the quarter up 41-33.
- Down 43-35 just 39 seconds into the fourth quarter, Watts hit a pair of free throws followed by a layup from Alyssa Guyon to cut the lead to four points. Once again, Pace was able to respond to the Yellow Jackets run with an 8-4 run of their own to get the lead to 51-41. With 27 seconds remaining in the contest and down 61-52, AIC got a three pointer from Watts to have the Yellow Jackets down just six. On the Setters next possession, they were able to ice the game with free throws and earn the 65-55 victory over AIC.
GAME NOTES:
- Watts has now tied her career-high in points in a single game with 35. On January 28, 2017 last season, she scored 35 points in a 71-44 win against St. Michael's.
- AIC tied its season high for turnovers with 18, which was their second consecutive game with 18. The Yellow Jackets committed 18 turnovers in a 59-51 loss to St. Michael's on Saturday, November 26.
