Late free throws lift Purple Knights over women's basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team hosted the Purple Knights of St. Michael's in a non-conference matinee, coming up short in a 59-51 result on Sunday, November 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Off a pass from Alyssa Guyon, Watts knocked down a layup to open the scoring just 17 seconds into the game. The Purple Knights sank their first field goal at the 8:13 mark to tie the game at deuces. AIC jumped out to the 7-2 lead, but St. Michael's battled back and tied it at seven all. After the first frame, the Yellow Jackets led 10-9.
  • Over the first 3:15 of the second quarter, AIC went on a 7-0 run to make it 17-9. At the break, the Yellow Jackets lead by five, 22-17.
  • The Purple Knights started the second half on a 9-0 run as they took the 26-22 lead in the first three minutes. Guyon hit a triple to make it 32-29 at the 4:41 mark before St. Michael's went on a run. Over the final 4:30 of the third, the Purple Knights closed out the quarter on an 11-2 run to make it 43-31 after three.
  • Siders hit a triple with 8:07 to spark an AIC 13-6 run over the next four minutes to make it 52-49.The Purple Knights hit their free throws late to take the game 59-51.

GAME NOTES:
  • The Yellow Jackets recorded a team-high seven blocks against the Purple Knights. The last time AIC had seven or more blocks was against St. Michael's in the 2015-16 season when they recorded seven in their 60-46 win.

NEXT UP:
  • AIC will host the Setters of Pace on Wednesday, November 29th at 5:30 for their second home conference game of the young season.
  • The team's 46 rebounds is their second-highest total, only behind their 49 against Roberts Wesleyan.
