SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team fell in its home opener against the Chargers of New Haven on Tuesday, November 21.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Watts opened the scoring for both teams just 27 seconds in with a midrange jumper. The game was all tied up at four just four minutes into the game before the Chargers went on a 6-0 run that was ended by a pair of Dominique Boyd free throws that made it 10-6.
- The Chargers' lead grew as high as 11 in the first quarter, but by the end of the first frame, the Yellow Jackets had cut it down to just six, 17-11.
- The second quarter was opened up by a steal and coast-to-coast finish by Watts to make it a four-point game. As the quarter continued, the Chargers increased their lead as they took the 13-point lead, 36-23, into the break.
- Over the first four-and-a-half minutes, the Yellow Jackets held the Chargers scoreless as they clawed their way back and made it 36-32. Just as AIC brought it within two possessions, the Chargers built their lead back up to as high as 11 in the quarter before a Watts layup with 15 seconds left made it a 48-39 game with just one more frame.
- With 2:48 left in the game, the Yellow Jackets started to make a push as they cut their double-digit deficit down to single digits. Ultimately, AIC ran out of time as the Chargers took the game, 75-63.
GAME NOTES:
- The team's 73 percent free throw shooting night is its second-best this season. The only game where the Yellow Jackets shot a better percentage was at Roberts Wesleyan where they shot 84 percent.
- This game was also the second-most assists the team has had all season with 13 dimes.
- Freshman Ishanna Brown had a career-high six assists, which is also a team single-game high this season. Junior Jayda Gilmore recorded five against Roberts Wesleyan earlier this year.
- The Yellow Jackets improved their three-point defense against New Haven as they allowed only one made deep ball on eight shots.
