PITTSBURGH - The American International College ice hockey team fell to Robert Morris University in Atlantic Hockey Conference action on Friday, November 17.

Records: AIC moves to 4-7-2 and 3-4-2 in Atlantic Hockey play; Robert Morris is now 4-7-1 and 4-5-1 in league play.
Location: Colonials Arena - Pittsburgh

STATS LEADERS:
AIC:
Stefano Durante (23 saves)
Blake Christensen (one goal)
Dominic Racobaldo (one assist)
Brennan Kapcheck (one assist)

Robert Morris:
Robert Powers (one goal, one assist)
Spencer Dorowicz (two goals)
Francis Marotte (30 saves)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Despite 12 first-period saves from freshman goaltender Stefano Durante, the Colonials opened the scoring at 10:53 of the first period off of the first career goal - a power-play goal - from senior Robert Powers.
  • Robert Morris added another power-play goal, this time from Spencer Dorowicz, at 6:03 of the second period to take a 2-0 lead.
  • AIC cut the Robert Morris lead in half just 2:13 into the third period off a goal from sophomore forward Blake Christensen, assisted by redshirt senior alternate captain Dominic Racobaldo and freshman defenseman Brennan Kapcheck.
  • The Yellow Jackets nearly tied the game later in the period, but the puck came up just short of crossing the goal line, and was confirmed no goal during a media timeout.
  • The Colonials extended their lead with 2:53 to go in the game off Dorowicz's second goal of the evening.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • Racobaldo appeared in his 100th career game on Friday, and notched his first point of the year with his assist on AIC's lone goal.
  • Kapcheck - who notched his eighth assist of the year on his 21st birthday - tied Sacred Heart's Marc Johnstone for the lead in scoring among Atlantic Hockey freshmen with 11 points this year.
  • Christensen, who only had one goal through his first seven appearances this season, now has three goals in the past two games. He led the team in scoring a year ago with 22 points.
  • The loss snapped a streak of three consecutive wins for the Yellow Jackets.
COACH'S CORNER:
  • "One thing we discussed in our pre-scout was not feeding their engine by taking unnecessary penalties," said AIC ice hockey head coach Eric Lang. "We don't get settled into the first period, and we take a penalty 200 feet from our net, and just like that, we are chasing the game. I thought we got better as the game went along, and we were an inch from tying the game late in the third. But you get what you deserve, and the better team won the game tonight."
  • "One positive to take away from the game is when we crank it up we can be dangerous," he added. "The key is to find that urgency right after the National Anthem, not after we are down 2-0."

NEXT UP:
  • The Yellow Jackets and Colonials close out the weekend series on Saturday, November 18 at 4 p.m.
