Men's soccer holds off Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vermont - The American International College men's soccer team used two first-half goals to take down Saint Michael's College on Wednesday, October 18 in Northeast-10 Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • AIC jumped out to a comfortable lead early - first, in the fourth minute, freshman forward Josip Validzic connected on a pass from freshman midfielder J.P. Rylah to make the score 1-0. Three minutes later, Rylah had another pass, this time to sophomore captain Jake Durham, that resulted in a goal and a 2-0 lead for the Yellow Jackets.
  • The Purple Knights cut the score in half in the 56th minute off a goal from Justin D'Orlando.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Ioannis Iatroudis made six saves, including four in the second half and two in the final three minutes - to keep Saint Michael's off the scoresheet again.

BUZZWORTHY:
  • This is the first time AIC has won on the Purple Knights' home turf since 2004.
  • Durham extended his team lead in goals and matched his 2016 total with his seventh goal of the year on Wednesday.
  • Rylah leads the team with 16 points this season, just ahead of Durham's 15 points. This marks the first time since 2010 that the Yellow Jackets have had multiple players score 15 points or more in a season.

COACH'S CORNER:
  • "It wasn't pretty by all means, but it was important that we held onto the early lead we had," said AIC coach Luke Perry. "It is important for us to mature and improve our concentration to last for the whole game. It is never easy coming up to SaintMichael's and getting a win, and I am pleased we have."

NEXT UP:
  • AIC continues a road stretch with a trip to Bentley University on Saturday, October 21. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
