SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College men's basketball team snapped their five-game losing skid against the Skyhawks of Stonehill on Saturday, January 21 in Butova Gym. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Skyhawks 38-27 in the second half to lift them to a 68-60 victory.
Bruce Spruell led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points, the fourth time this season he has eclipsed the 20 mark. He also pulled in 11 rebounds.
Juwan Moody had 18 points while
Tahlib Swan added 17 and eight boards.
On the Skyhawks' first possession, they knocked down a three to give them the early lead. Neither team found the bottom of the basket until Stonehill laid one in at the 15:16 mark and made it 5-0. The Yellow Jackets made their first shot at the 13 minute mark on a Spruell layup. The Skyhawks had a seven-point lead with just under 13 left in the half when AIC started to come back. With 5:24 the Yellow Jackets had their first lead of the game, 18-17. With a minute and eight seconds left in the half, the Skyhawks took the lead, and went into halftime with the 33-30 advantage.
Stonehill controlled the first three minutes of the game until Moody knocked down a shot from outside and tied the game at 38. With 11 minutes on the clock, Moody knocked down another triple and gave the Yellow Jackets the 47-44 lead. The Skyhawks cut it down to two points, but that was as close as they could get as AIC knocked down free throws and made shots to give them the 68-60 win.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. when they travel to Merrimack.
