Men's soccer falls to No. 4 Southern New Hampshire

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's soccer team lost a tough battle to No. 4 Southern New Hampshire University, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

The Yellow Jackets became the first team to score against the Penmen this season, when junior Ousmane Sangary received a cross from freshman Jake Durham directly in front of the net in the 58th minute. Sangary beat an SNHU defender to bury his first goal of the season.

The goal also broke a shutout streak of more than 1,000 minutes from SNHU goalkeeper Nick Zucco.

Senior goalkeeper Sebastian Tamayo held off a strong effort on offense from the nationally ranked Penmen, making nine total saves, including seven in the first half.

In the 80th minute, Enzo Giuliani picked up a ball that was bouncing around in the box and scored to tie the game at 1-1. Four minutes later, Robert Brown took the lead for the Penmen, scoring off a corner to make the score 2-1.

"Very proud of the guys tonight," said AIC head coach Luke Perry."It's been a long time since I've seen a team play like that against SNHU, and from the second half onwards we looked the better side. Unfortunately, we didn't get the result, but the future is bright for the boys, and we have to keep positive and move on."

The Yellow Jackets next take action on Tuesday, when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut, for a matchup against Southern Connecticut State University.
