The American International College women's tennis team won its first match of the season, 6-3, on the road against the College of Saint Rose on Saturday in Latham, New York.
Senior captains Isabela Daudt and Eleanna Fulop led the way with wins, first at first doubles, 8-3, and individual victories at singles as well. Daudt earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at second singles, and in the third singles spot, Fulop had a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Graduate student Logan Smith won her match at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Sophomore Carleyah McLean battled in the longest match of the day at first singles, falling by results of 6-3, 7-6(4) to Saint Rose's Averie Bowen. She and Smith also lost a tough match at second doubles, 8-3.
The Yellow Jackets will play their second match of the weekend on Sunday at home, hosting the University of New Haven at Springfield Central High School beginning at 1 p.m.
