SYRACUSE, N.Y. The seventh seeded American International College Yellow Jackets dropped a, 15-4, decision to the No. 2 Le Moyne College Dolphins in the Quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament this afternoon from Ted Grant Field.
AIC's season comes to a close with a 9-9 overall record while the Dolphins improve to 16-1 and move on to Saturday's semifinal round where they will host the winner of the #6 Stonehill vs. #3 Bentley contest.
Le Moyne jumped out to an early lead with three-straight goals to open the game before the Jackets were able to get on the board as senior Cheyenne Carden (Branford, Conn.) found the back of the cage at the 24:19 mark for the 3-1 score.
The Dolphins then scored the next four goals to expand their lead as Maggie Monnat netted a pair to secure the early hat-trick at the 15:52 mark. Junior Riley Brennan (Wilbraham, Mass.) responded off a great dart toward the cage and was rewarded on a great feed from senior Kelly Reilly (Corning, N.Y.) for the 7-2 margin at the 14:32 mark.
Monnat continued to have a stellar game as she potted two more as the hosts scored four straight compiled with some big saves by Ryan Cortese to go into the intermission with the 11-2 advantage.
Brennan started the second half well for AIC as junior Stefanie Dufresne (Belchertown, Mass.) found her classmate streaking toward the net and hit her in stride for her second of the game at the 27:48 mark for the 11-3 deficit.
Monnat again had the answer for the Phins as they rattled off three consecutive goals and hit running time with a Erica Geremia tally at the 25:41 mark before Carden got the Jackets back in the offensive column with her second of the day on a free position shot at 13:15 for the 14-4 margin.
The Dolphins added a late goal for the final score.
Junior Alexis Torosian (Hopkinton, Mass.) was dealt the loss falling to 9-9 on the season after turning aside nine shots while Cortese improves to 15-1 after a five save performance before being relieved by Maggie Brown.
Le Moyne outshot the visitors 29-20 including a 24-15 clip on target while also controlling the draws, 13-7, while each team collected 13 ground balls and had 13 turnovers.
