Men's Lax Send Seniors Off On Top With 13-10 Win Over Georgian Court

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College men's lacrosse team ended on top as the Yellow Jackets downed Georgian Court University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Ronald J. Abdow Field, 13-10.

With the win, AIC ends the 2016 campaign with a record of 1-14. The Lions of GCU, in their first season, finish 2-13 with the loss.

Led by sophomore attacker Jack McIntyre's (East Longmeadow, Mass.) six points, the Yellow Jackets outlasted the Lions in the second half for the first win of the season.

AIC freshman Lucas Bombardier (Pittsford, Vt.) gave the Jackets a one-goal edge heading into the final frame with a last second goal to make it 8-7 after three quarters. Classmate Quinn Caesar () found Bombardier late to give them an advantage with 15 minutes remaining.

McIntyre opened the fourth with a goal, his first of three goals in the final stanza. GCU responded with scoring tallies from Michael Negrete and Ryder Verdoni to knot it back up at nine apiece.

McIntyre then went back to work, scoring two straight, his 18th and 19th of the year, before junior Eric Overdahl (Milford, Mass.) netted his second of the game to pull ahead by three goals with just over five minutes on the clock. Verdoni and Caesar traded goals to end the contest as AIC held on for the victory.

McIntyre registered four goals and two assists to lead all scorers. Overdahl chipped in four points off two goals and two assists, while Bombardier, Caesar and Corey Papineau (Westfield, Mass.) all added three points apiece. For Corey Papineau, the rookie netted his collegiate goal at the 4:15 mark in the first period. Classmate Andrew Brown (Swanzey, N.H.) also struck for two goals.

AIC used junior John Magliano (Upton, Mass.) as the primary goalkeeper for the game. Magliano made eight saves in the winning effort.
