PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The American International College softball team fell in a pitchers dual at Pace University Friday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action, 2-0.
With the loss AIC falls to 16-20 overall and 11-15 in NE-10 play, while with the win Pace improves to 23-13 and 16-6 in conference play.
AIC junior starter Alyssa Camargo (Covina, Calif.) allowed just one earned run and two total for the game, both in the first inning. Pace led 2-0 after the first and held on from there.
Yellow Jacket freshman Kaley Kempf (Oxford, Conn.) knocked around the only hit of the day in the third. AIC threatened in the fourth as senior Jenna Costa (Turners Falls, Mass.), sophomore Jamie Mainez (Redlands, Calif.) and senior Jorrdin Miller (Garfield, N.J.) all walked to open the inning. Kempf reached on a fielder's choice, but could not force a run across and the Setters truck out the final two Jacket batters to end the inning, stranding three AIC base runners.
Camargo struck out one and allowed just two Pace hits, but fell to 8-10 this season.
AIC returns to the diamond against Pace tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 for a twinbill slated to start at noon.
