Softball Swept By New Haven

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College baseball team were swept in Northeast-10 Southwest Divisional action Saturday afternoon at Groff Field, 12-2 and 6-0.

With the pair of losses AIC falls to 9-10 overall and 1-5 in divisional play, while with the sweep New Haven improves to 12-4 and 4-2 in the conference.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Yellow Jacket sophomore Alexa DiLeo (Cheshire, Conn.) singled, but an error by the right fielder allowed her to move to second and senior Jorrdin Miller (Garfield, N.J.) home.

New Haven tacked on a run in the top of the third, but AIC responded in the home half. With Miller on first and classmate Jenna Costa (Turners Falls, Mass.) on third, the pair went for the double steal. Costa crossed home in time, but Miller was thrown out at second to end the inning.

The Chargers went on to finish game one big, plating three in the top of the sixth and six in the seventh capped off by a two-run shot from Taylor Luzzi over the right field wall.

DiLeo tallied the only multi-hit game for AIC, going 2-2 from the dish with an RBI and a walk. The Jackets stranded six base runners in the outing.

New Haven's Victoria Cabral (9-2) had command of the finale, allowing just two AIC hits, one from junior Kristen Steel (Newburgh, N.Y.) and the other from freshman Sarah Baganz (Kingston, N.Y.).

The teams were scoreless after four with Sarah Beliveau (Bristol, Conn.) pitching for the home squad. Charger Julie Devlin broke it open with a solo shot in the fifth and New Haven added five insurance runs in the seventh for the shutout. Beliveau allowed six earned off seven hits. She walked just three and struck out five.

The Yellow Jackets have some time off to rest before retaking the field Thursday, Mar. 31 at home against Saint Michael's College. First pitch of the twinbill with the Purple Knights is slated for 3 p.m.
