SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota- The American International College volleyball took the court in the Elite Eight as they took on the number one seed, Concordia-St. Paul. In their first-ever Elite Eight appearance, the Yellow Jackets dropped the match in three sets, 6-25, 16-25, and 13-25.
The national number one gave the Yellow Jackets trouble early as they scored the first five points. The rough start caused Coach
Matt Cribbin to take an early timeout to settle the team down. Out of the timeout,
Diva Rivas-Reyes killed a pass from
Dolores Kopren to give the Yellow Jackets their first point. The Golden Bears proved why they are the number one team in the nation, as they did what no team did to AIC this season: held them to single digits in a 25-point set.
In the second set, the Yellow Jackets came out looking like a completely different team. The Yellow Jackets took a 5-4 lead in the beginning of the set. The two teams battled and the scored reflected that. With the score tied at seven, the Golden Bears ran with three straight and forced a timeout as they led 10-7. Down 14-10, the Yellow Jackets went back-to-back and brought the match to within two. The Golden Bears answered with their own run and their lead grew to six with the scoreboard showing 21-15. The Golden Bears took set two by a score of 25-16.

Annie Boele. The game was tied at eight when the Golden Bears put four straight on the board and jumped out 12-8 and forced a Yellow Jacket timeout. Out of the timeout, the run continued for two points. Just as they had a majority of the season, the Golden Bears took the match without conceding a set as they took the third set, 25-13.
The Yellow Jackets' historical season comes to an end. The 2016 Yellow Jacket team recorded the best record in team history at 28-7, the program's first NCAA win, the program's first East Region Championship, and their first All-American.

Dolores Kopren broke the single season assists per set and total assists records. Kopren averaged 11.20 assists per set and had 1479 assists in the season. Both of those records were previously held by Dawn Richardson with 10.86 and 1314, respectively, in 2003. In addition to the setting records, she also is now the leader in service attempts at 655 and is tenth in service aces with 64.
Mercy Rivera broke her own single season digs record, which was 603, and raised it by 173 for a total of 776 digs for the season. She also broke her own digs per set record, which is now set at 5.79.
Rivas-Reyes is fourth in the single season kills per set with 3.92, fifth in attack attempts with 1199 and ninth in total points with 493.
Jana Potic joins her on the attack attempts list with 1095 where she ranks tenth.
Lauren Pires also made the top ten in block assists in a single season, where she sits in ninth with 70.
As a team, the 2016 Yellow Jackets led the history program in total kills with 1790, assists per set at 12.58, total assists with 1686, and service attempts with 2960.
