Dolphins visit Springfield for midweek showdown

The American International College women's basketball team returns home after a two-game road swing to host conference opponent Le Moyne.

LAST TIME OUT:The Yellow Jackets are on a two-game winning streak after their road win over LIU Post. The Yellow Jackets came out hot on both sides of the ball. In the first ten minutes of play, the Yellow Jackets scored 16 points while holding the Pioneers to just nine. The second quarter went to the Pioneers as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-11. At the half, the Yellow Jackets led 27-23. The Yellow Jackets took the third quarter by two points before tying in the fourth. The Yellow Jackets escaped with a six points, 61-55, victory.
Watts and Stepney each recorded a double-double in the win over the Pioneers. Watts had 17 points and 14 rebounds while Stepney grabbed 10 rebounds and had 15 points. Gilmore was the only other Yellow Jacket in double digit scoring with 14 points. Gilmore also had a career-high in dimes with six.

The Dolphins have been a hot team this year, as they enter the game with a 6-2 record. However, one of their losses came last Wednesday at the hands of Adelphi, 62-48, at home. The Dolphins were outscored in three of the four quarters, including being held to single digits in the first. McKayla Roberts had 10 points, six assists, and three steals in the game. Nicole Riddick chipped in for 10 points, and six rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Corinne Poitevien led the team in rebounds with seven in just 13 minutes of court time.

CONSISTENCY:Sophomore standout Watts has been one of the most consistent players in the country this season. Watts has recorded a double-double in six of the Yellow Jackets' seven games this season. She is averaging 22.9 points per game and 11 rebounds per game. She ranks in the top 10 nationally in made free throws (1st), double-doubles (1st), free throw attempts (3rd), rebounds (4th), defensive rebounds per game (5th), points per game (7th), and rebounds per game (8th).

WINNING STREAK:The Yellow Jackets are looking to go on their longest winning streak of the season. The Yellow Jackets have won back-to-back games one other time this season, Goldey-Beacom on 11/12, and Saint Rose on 11/16.

SECOND HALF TEAM: Through eight games this season, the Yellow Jackets are outscoring their opponents by 43 points. The biggest differential of any quarter is the fourth, where they lead 156-122. The only quarter were the Yellow Jackets are being outscored is the first. In the first 10 minutes of play, the Yellow Jackets are being outscored by one point, 128-127.

NEXT UP:AIC will take its talent on the road for two straight games. The first will be on Thursday, December 8 at Post University, then on December 10 at New Haven.
