SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts- The American International College volleyball team looked to lock up a berth to the Northeast-10 Tournament when they hosted Southern New Hampshire on Senior Day. The Yellow Jackets took the match in straight sets, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-16.
Prior to the game, Coach
Matt Cribbin took the opportunity to honor its three seniors:
Natalija Kruger,
Lauren Pires, and
Caitlin Sobolewski.
In the first set with the score tied at four, the Yellow Jackets 4-0 run to take the lead. As the game continued, the Penmen made it a 15-10 game. The would then Yellow Jackets rallied four straight points to take the 21-12 lead. The Yellow Jackets kept controlling the game and took the first set, 25-15.
The second set started off all Yellow Jackets, 14-4. The Penmen did not go away, as they brought the set within one, 17-16. Unfortunately for the Penmen, the Yellow Jackets took the second set, 25-20.
With the score tied at three-all in the third set, the Yellow Jackets ripped off seven straight to take the 10-3 lead. The Penmen would attempt to make a comeback but the Yellow Jacket run was too much and the Yellow Jackets took the set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets dominated in almost every category, with the biggest difference coming in aces, 12-1.
Annie Boele had 11 kills in the match, the only player in double digits for either team.
Lauren Pires and
Diva Rivas-Reyes each chipped in nine in for the match.
Mercy Rivera led the team in digs with 23, while
Dolores Kopren had all but one assist, as she recorded 37.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the road for the final two games of the season before heading into the Northeast-10 Tournament. They will first travel to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday, November 8, and then to Bentley on Thursday, November 10.
