BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut-Sophomore guard
Juwan Moody drilled a go-ahead three with less than three seconds left on the clock to lift AIC to a 71-68 victory against Holy Family University at the University of Bridgeport.
AIC improves to 1-1 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets led by as much as ten midway through the second half, going up 59-49 on junior guard
Tahlib Swan's three with 8:50 remaining in regulation, but the Jackets would miss the next nine shots, allowing Holy Family to come back and take the lead with a dozen seconds left, 68-66 after a pair of free throws.
That was when Moody took matters into his own hands. He found an open look and let a shot go, sailing it into the basket with under three seconds to play and putting his squad back atop the scoreboard, 69-68. The Jackets then forced a five-second violation on the ensuing inbound to seal the win, as Holy Family had to foul, and Swan hit both free throws for the final result.
Sophomore guard
Jayvon Pitts-Young helped stake the Yellow Jackets to a 35-30 lead at the half with 12 of his team-best 17 points in the first twenty minutes of play. For Holy Family, Randy Bell had 30 to top the game in points, including hitting four three-point shots in the second frame to help his team cut down the deficit.
AIC opens the home and Northeast-10 portion of their schedule on November 16 when they host The College of Saint Rose with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
