Women's basketball earns victory against Goldey Beacom

PHILADELPHIA -On Saturday afternoon, the American International College women's basketball team was looking to rebound from a tough overtime buzzer-beater loss to the University of the Sciences on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets did just that, outscoring Goldey-Beacom in all four quarters on their way to a 68-52 win.

Nine seconds into the game, Imani Stepney launched one from downtown and hit the bottom of the net. On the team's next possession, Dana Watts hit a jumper to put AIC up, 5-0, less than a minute into the game. With 16 seconds left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 18 all. A free throw by the Lighting gave them a one-point lead. A layup and free throw by Stepney gave the Yellow Jackets the 21-19 lead after 10 minutes.

The Lighting hit a layup that tied the game at 21 early in the second, but the Yellow Jackets fought back to regain the 25-21 lead. The Lightning struck back and took the 30-25 lead with almost four and a half minutes left in the game. A 10-0 run helped the Yellow Jackets lead at the half, 35-30.

In the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets held the Lighting to just three points in the last four minutes. The Yellow Jackets went onto score the last four points of the quarter and hold the 49-40 lead with just one quarter left. With 9:27 left in the game, the Lightning would pull the score back within nine, but that's as close as they would get.

The Yellow Jackets end the weekend at 1-1, with a 68-52 win over Goldey-Beacom.

Watts had her second double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds, including going 12-for-13 from the line. Alyssa Guyon went 3-for-6 from the arc and had six offensive rebounds as she ended with 20 points and seven rebounds. Jayda Gilmore and Stepney respectively chipped in 13 and 12.

The Yellow Jackets open the conference season at home when they host Saint Rose on Wednesday, November 16 at 5:30 p.m.
