Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer vies for postseason berth vs. Bentley

The American International College men's soccer team will face Bentley University on Friday, October 28, in hopes of clinching a postseason berth in the teams' regular-season finale.

AIC sits in eighth place in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 7-8-1 record on the year and a 5-6-1 mark in league play. With the top eight teams qualifying for the postseason tournament, the Yellow Jackets sit one point ahead of ninth-place Stonehill College.

The Yellow Jackets come off a heartbreaking defeat against No. 9 Adelphi University on Tuesday. A goal from graduate student Jason Burnusuz with three and a half minutes remaining in regulation tied the game at 1-1, but Adelphi scored with five seconds left in double overtime to escape with the 2-1 victory.

Bentley is in last place in the Northeast-10 conference, with a 2-11-2 record in 2016 and a 2-9-2 mark in conference play. However, recent history hasn't been kind to the Yellow Jackets in matchups against the Falcons - AIC hasn't beaten them since 2012. Most recently, in 2015, AIC dropped its season finale to Bentley by a score of 3-1.

On Tuesday, the Falcons snapped a five-game losing streak with a 1-0 overtime win against the University of New Haven. Their only other win this year came against Stonehill College on October 5, though they also played Adelphi to a scoreless draw on September 27.

Junior Sean Sullivan leads the team in scoring with 15 points on the year, including six goals. Harrison Rapant has seen the most time in net as of late, posting a 2.04 goals-against average and a .699 save percentage through 10 starts.

Prior to the game, AIC will also recognize 10 members of its senior class on Senior Day: Dan Belair, Burnusuz, Juan Correa, Kyle Estell, Lamar Grogan, Benjamin Jepson, Matthew Moore, Lasse Olrik, Sebastian Tamayo, and team manager Dante Raggio.
