The American International College field hockey team hosts the seventh-ranked LIU Post Pioneers on Senior Day.
LAST TIME OUT: AIC dropped a 4-1 decision at then-number four Stonehill. The Skyhawks struck for two tallies in rapid fashion in the middle of the first half, with the latter coming on a penalty stroke. AIC was able to cut the lead to 2-1 before the half ended as freshman Georgia Barnes scored her first collegiate goal on a pass from junior Payton Montague. However, the second frame was all Stonehill, as they added goals in the forty-eighth and fiftieth minutes to earn the win. AIC had three defensive saves in the contest and sophomore Taylor Ross had 11 saves in net.
Emily Miller led the way for LIU in a 3-1 win over Pace, scoring a hat trick in the victory. She opened the scoring in the twenty-eighth minute, but the Setters drew even on a penalty stroke called with no time left on the clock in the half. In the second frame, she scored in the forty-first and fiftieth minute to put her team ahead and close out the scoring. The Pioneers had a 14-7 shot advantage including 10-5 on goal, despite conceding 15 corners.
LAST TIME THEY MET: AIC struggled to put shots on goal as they fell 3-1 to the Pioneers on Long Island on October 24, 2015. Miller had the game's opening tally in the fifteenth minute, and Keliann Margiotta scored twice in the second half to extend the lead. Senior Taylor Ruscillo had an assist for AIC in the loss, while Ross made six saves and also saw a defensive save from senior Lizz Moulton.
WIN AND (PROBABLY) IN: An AIC victory would all but lock up a playoff berth for the Yellow Jackets, and a sweep of the final two games would tie up the fifth seed at minimum. AIC can finish as high as third if they win out, and clinch a playoff berth with a win in either of their final home games and a loss by Merrimack, over whom they own the tiebreaker.
SENIOR DAY: AIC will celebrate the accomplishments of the three seniors playing their final home game of the regular season. Taylor Ruscillo, Emma Heroth, and Lizz Moulton have combined to help AIC earn thirty-four wins over their four years with the program.
NEXT UP: AIC closes out their regular season slate with a trip to St. Michael's College on Wednesday. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
