The American International College women's soccer team hosts national #4 Stonehill College in a battle of two of the top three Northeast-10 Conference teams.
LAST TIME OUT: It was heartbreak for AIC as
they lost a 1-0 contest to Southern Connecticut State. The Owls converted a penalty kick for the only goal of the game. The Jackets were held to just one shot on target in the second half of the contest.
Stonehill likewise suffered a setback in a defensive struggle,
dropping a 2-0 decision to Saint Anselm. The Skyhawks managed just two shots on goal in the contest.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Federica Frew had two goals,
Johanna Nilsson added a goal and an assist, and
Taylor Kue also scored as the Yellow Jackets
rolled past the Skyhawks 4-1 in Easton on October 26, 2015. Frew's first of the game came off of a Nilsson shot that hit the crossbar in the fifth minute, while her second came in the twenty-sixth minute on a pass from
Jessica Margaretta. Kue chipped in the third AIC goal in the forty-first minute, and Nilsson finished the scoring for AIC in the fifty-third minute, also assisted by Margaretta.
TOP OF THE TABLE: AIC sits in third in the Northeast-10, a point back of Adelphi and Stonehill. With the Panthers off today, the winner of the match will sit alone atop the table. Should the match end in a draw, AIC would be tied for second with Adelphi and a point back still of the Skyhawks, who own the tiebreaker with the Panthers. Notably, AIC visits Adelphi on October 22, while the Skyhawks face Southern Connecticut on October 18; the fourth-place Owls beat AIC and drew Adelphi.
LOCK-DOWN DEFENSE: The Jackets and Skyhawks have allowed the fewest goals in the conference with eight against each. AIC has allowed only five in conference play, while the Skyhawks have surrendered just seven. The nation's top team, Central Missouri, has amazingly yet to surrender a goal through nine games played.
NEXT UP: AIC hits the road Wednesday, traveling to New York to take on Pace in a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
