Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 21 Women's Basketball Clashes With Assumption Wednesday

WORCESTER, Mass. - The 21st nationally ranked American International College women's basketball team puts its all-time best start, 13-0, on the line Wednesday evening against the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division leading Assumption College Greyhounds at Laska Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 1:30 p.m.

TRENDING NOW: With 13.3 points-per-game over the last three tilts, AIC senior Kamika Mason (Long Beach, Calif.) has risen her average to 10.5 this season. The veteran center has also blocked 2.7 shots-game over the same span and averages 1.7 for the season.

ABOUT AIC: With their win at Dominican Wednesday, the 2015-16 women's basketball team matched a program-best 11-0 start set by the 2005-06 Yellow Jackets squad. That same team advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship game and was inducted into the AIC Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2015. Senior Brianna Bishop(Suffield, Conn.) continues to lead the team in scoring (15.0 PPG) while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from long range. The sharp-shooter has drained 62 trey's this campaign - her previous season-high was 73 made three's sin 2014-15. Paced by senior Sydney Tepley's (Racine, Wis.) 7.7 rebounds-game, the Yellow Jackets boast a +12.6 rebound margin over opponents this season.

SWARMING DEFENSE: AIC ranks second in the country in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 49.8 points-per-game. Only Bridgeport (62) and Le Moyne (60) have broken the 60-point barrier on the stingy Yellow Jackets this year.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS: After dropping back-to-back games to start December, Assumption has rattled off five straight victories and reamins atop the Northeast Division. Led by Allison Stoddard's 11.0 points, the Hounds average 63.9 and give up 58.0 a game to opponents. Kelly Conley leads the defense with 4.7 rebounds as Assumption comes away with 40.6 boards-game.

THE LAST MEETING: AIC's Krista Ferrentino ('15) went 11-14 from the floor for a team-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Yellow Jackets road win at Laska last January, 61-45. Mason hit 5-6 shots for 13 points and eight boards. The Yellow Jackets shot 53.1 percent from the field and 4-9 from long range. Assumption fired up 19 three's but connected on just one, a day the Hounds combined for 33.9 percent from the floor. Shayla Hubbard paced the team with 12 points.

NEXT UP: The Yellow Jackets next take the court Sunday, Jan. 10 when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a tilt with the Penmen. Tip-off from Manchester is slated for 1:30 p.m.
