SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. American International freshman Amanda Dube (Mechanic Falls, Maine) registered her first career goal, but Slippery Rock came away victorious Monday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, 4-1.
With the loss AIC falls to 1-1 to start the season, while with the win the Rock moves to 1-1 after the first weekend of play.
It was all Slippery Rock early in the contest as the Rock outshot AIC in the opening half, 9-0. Yellow Jacket senior goaltender Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) turned away 8-of-9 shots, but was beaten by Renee Rosenblum in the 15th minute, her only blemish of the half.
The AIC offense fared better after the break, getting a Dube goal in 58th minute, but not before two more Slippery Rock goals trickled in, leaving AIC in a 3-1 hole.
Senior Erica McLean (Branford, Conn.) had a great look to bring it with one late, but a defensive save by Kayla Mack thwarted the rally attempt and SRU went on to add an insurance goal in the 69th minute to seal the game.
AIC registered 4-of-5 shots on goal led by McLean's two, but the Rock had a monstrous 14-3 advantage in penalty corners. Penfield finished with nine saves for the game.
AIC returns to action Saturday, Sep. 12 at Saint Michael's. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. from Colchester, Vt.
