SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The American International College women's tennis team fell to Merrimack in a Northeast-10 match Saturday afternoon at Central High, 9-0.
With the loss AIc falls to 1-5, both overall and in NE-10 play, while with the win Merrimack improves to 6-2 and 5-2 in league matches.
For the first time this season, Yellow Jacket senior Ana Paula Simoes (Brasilia, Brazil) dropped a singles match, but to a worthy opponent in Warrior Grace Messina. Messina has yet to lose a conference singles match in her career. Simoes battled Messina, 4-6, 5-7.
AIC junior Eleanna Fulop (Anixi-Attiki, Greece) won the second set in No. 2 singles against Mana Seifaei, but fell in the tiebreaker, 10-3.
To start the match, Fulop and Simoes paired up at No. 1 doubles, but fell to Messina and Chealsey Giatrelis, 8-1.
The Yellow jackets return to the courts Tuesday, Sep. 29 when they travel to Bentley for a 3 p.m. start.
