Simoes Moves to 4-0 at No. 1 Singles, But Women's Tennis Falls to Le Moyne, 8-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. American International College senior Ana Paula Simoes (Brasilia, Brazil) remained perfect at No. 1 singles with her victory against Le Moyne Wednesday afternoon.

Despite Simoes' win, the Yellow Jackets fell to the Dolphins, 8-1. With the loss, AIC falls to 1-4, while with the win Le Moyne improves to 5-1 overall.

Simoes defeated Tiffany Dun, 6-2, 6-2 moving to 4-0 to start the season. Simoes' first match of the season was shortened due to weather, but she left the court up 5-3 in the first set or she could potentially be 5-0 in her final campaign at AIC.

Simoes teamed up with junior Eleanna Fulop (Anixi-Attiki, Greece) in first singles. The pair battled Dun and Amica Benoit-Limosani, but fell to the Dolphin duo, 8-6.

Fulop played individually at No. 2 singles and earned games, but lost to Benoit-Limosani, 0-6, 3-6. Senior Whitney McKay (Corning, N.Y.) jumped in at third singles and also won a few games. McKay battled Allsion Jones in a loss, 2-6, 2-6.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, Sep. 26 when they play host to Merrimack at 1 p.m.
