Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Franklin Pierce Defeats Field Hockey, 2-1

RINDGE, N.H. Sophomore Liv Magni (Sweet Valley, Pa.) scored the lone tally for American International, but it was not enough as Franklin Pierce University defeated the Yellow Jackets, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening.

With the loss AIC falls to 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in league play while FPU moves to 5-2 and even their NE-10 record at 1-1.

In a stagnant first half of play the Ravens had a golden change to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission as they were awarded a penalty stroke in the final minute of the half.

Sophomore Erin Smith (Templeton, Mass.) lifted the shot that beat Yellow Jacket freshman Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.), but missed the post wide left keeping the contest scoreless after the first 35 minutes of play.

The Ravens continued the momentum coming out of the break, however, and potted the first goal in the 38th minute off a penalty corner as Smith drove to the left post for the 1-0 score.

American International registered the equalizer in the 55th minute as junior Katie Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.) blasted a shot off a penalty corner that was inserted by junior Shea Homer (Glens Falls, N.Y.) and redirected in front by Magni onit's way to the back of the cage for the 1-1 score.

The Ravens upped the pressure in the final ten minutes and it resulted in the winning tally as freshman Raegan Moulton (Baldwinville, Mass.) corralled a loose ball and shot through traffic to find the back of the cage and the 2-1 victory.

Ross stopped six shots while falling to 0-2 on the year and her counterpart, Raven sophomore Meaghan Williams (Salem, N.H.) made five saves in the victory.

Franklin Pierce controlled the 18-8 edge in shots while also leading 8-5 in penalty corners.

AIC continues conference play when they return home on Saturday to battle Southern New Hampshire from Ronald J. Abdow Field at 6 p.m.
