MANSFIELD, Mass. Sophomore Chris Starcun (Easthampton, Mass.) has been dubbed Northeast-10 Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday morning.
Starcun powered the Jackets offense during a 1-3 week with a line of .647/.667/1.235 while going 11-for-17 with a pair of homers, four doubles, four runs batted in and seven runs scored.
The sophomore blasted a pair of home runs in in a 17-7 loss to Franklin Pierce to start the week and also turned in a 4-for-4 day with three doubles in a 4-1 game-one victory at Southern Connecticut. Starcun combined to go 6-for-8 during that doubleheader while adding a fourth double in the 1-0 loss in game-two.
Starcun currently sits atop the Northeast-10 in batting average (.429), on-base percentage (5.65) and slugging percentage (.771) while riding a four-game hitting streak.
The sophomore is the second Yellow Jacket to earn this honor so far this season as junior shortstop Eddie Ritch (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) earned the distinction three weeks ago.
Graduate student Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) and junior RHP Colin Sledzik (Higganum, Conn.) also earned honor roll recognition for their performances one week ago.
Clark went 7-for-16 (.438) during the week while belting one homer, three doubles, driving in a pair and scoring four runs. His week was highlighted with a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and double against Franklin Pierce and a 3-for-5 effort with a double and RBI in the opening game against Southern Connecticut.
Clark now boasts an even .400 batting average good for second on the team and third in the conference.
Sledzik tossed his second complete game of the season in the lone win for the Yellow Jackets last week a 4-1 victory over Southern Connecticut in game-one of a twin-bill. The junior scattered seven hits while striking out three and only allowing a late ninth inning run.
Sledzik improved to 3-0 with the victory and dropped his earned run average to 1.67 a mark which is best on the team and seventh in the NE-10.
