ORANGETOWN, N.Y. - The American International College women's basketball team can match a program-best start of 11-0 at Dominican College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Hennessy Center. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
Live StatsTRENDING NOW: AIC senior
Brianna Bishop (Suffield, Conn.) scored her 16 points off 5-9 shooting, including 4-6 from behind the arc, in the Yellow Jackets throttling of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Dec. 17 in Bayamon, P.R., 68-35.
ABOUT AIC: Believe it or not, the Yellow Jackets 10-0 start is still not the best all-time as the 2005-06 squad opened the season 11-0! The Yellow Jackets have a chance to tie that mark with a non-conference road game at Dominican Wednesday and barring a win, a chance to break the record Saturday at home against Northeast-10 Southwest rival, New Haven. Bishop continues to pace AIC on offense, averaging 15.1 points. The Yellow Jackets have been dominant on the glass all season, out-rebounding opponents by 12.1 a game and led by senior
Sydney Tepley's (Racine, Wis.) 7.7 average. Anotr major factor in their impressive start is their defense, AIC is holding team's below 50 points and only allowed two teams to break the 60 point barrier.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS: Dominican enters Wednesday's contest on a three-game win streak, coincidentally over the same three opponents AIC has taken down in that span - Post, Bayamon and Rio Piedras. The Chargers are 0-3 against the NE-10 this season after opening the season with losses to Assumption and Stonehill at the Assumption College Tip-Off Tournament. DC averages 63.1 points and gives up just 56.8 points to opponents as only one team, Stonehill, has scored over 70 points on the Charger defense (84). Deja Gabbidon is the only Dominican player to average double figures (15.3). She also dominates the glass with 10.6 rebounds.
THE LAST MEETING: The Yellow Jackets leapt out to a 10-0 lead and dominated Dominican from the opening tip of a 70-52 win at the Saint Rose Holiday Classic on Dec. 22, 2013 in Albany, N.Y. Jacket
Krista Ferrentino ('15) led all scorers with 20, while Tepley put up a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards.
Ebony Easter (San Antonio, Texas) also grabbed 10 rebounds for AIC in a 47-29 edge on the glass. Shannon McGrill led Dominican with 12 points.
NEXT UP: The Yellow Jackets return to Northeast-10 action Saturday, Jan. 2 when the University of New Haven visits Springfield. Tip-off with the Chargers is slated for 1:30 p.m. from Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
