WALTHAM, Mass. The American International College men's soccer squad dropped their season finale, 3-1, to Bentley University in Northeast-10 action this afternoon.
With the loss the Yellow Jackets see their season come to a close at 4-8-5 overall and a 2-6-5 mark in the NE-10 while Bentley improves to 9-6-1 on the year and 8-4-1 in the conference and will see their season continue in next week as they begin Northeast-10 Championship play.
The Falcons got on the board first in the 15th minute as Jose Tirado sent a free-kick into the box that was headed home at the six yard mark by Brett Ripperger for the 1-0 edge.
AIC tied the contest later in the half as senior Kyle Kazukynas (Enfield, Conn.) blasted a shot that was misplayed by the keeper and trickled across the goal line for the equalizer in the 36th minute.
However, Bentley regained the lead headed into the break as Marty Ryan sent a cross into the box that was touched on by Scott Levy and hammered home by Sean Sullivan for the 2-1 lead.
Fresh Alejandro Alvarez (Pereria, Columbia) nearly tied the contest again in the 61st minute but his bid was turned aside with a nice save.
The Falcons then registered some insurance as Tirado again did some damage off a free kick as this time he picked the top left corner from 25 yards out for the 3-1 advantage in the 70th minute.
Freshman keeper Nicholas Romei (Enfield, Conn.) collected three saves to fall to 0-1-0 on the year in his second start while his counterpart, Jack Blatchford, stopped a trio of shots while improving to 9-6-1 overall.
The Jackets were outshot 12-4 (6-4 SOG) while the hosts also controlled corner kicks 9-2.
