Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Defeated by LIU Post, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. Freshman Marie De Vroey (Hove, Belgium) scored her first collegiate goal, however, it was not enough as American International College dropped a, 3-1 decision to LIU Post in Northeast-10 field hockey action this afternoon from Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

AIC falls to 3-13 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10 with the setback while LIU improves to 10-5 on the year and 6-4 in conference play.

In a rematch of last season's NE-10 Championship semifinals the Pioneers controlled possession early and often throughout the first half not allowing the Yellow Jacket a single shot attempt.

Post then opened the scoring in the 15th minute as freshman Emily Miller (Bridgewater, N.J.) ripped home a rebound off her initial bid that was blocked for the 1-0 edge headed into the intermission.

LIU then doubled that margin early in the second as senior Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) found the back of the cage with help from Miller in the 37th minute.

Margiotta then had another chance in the 40th minute, but senior Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) harnessed her inner goalie and sacrificed her body for the defensive save.

The senior did find the back of the cage again in the 49th minute to record her second goal of the game and give the hosts a 3-0 lead before AIC finally broke the shutout in the 56th minute.

Junior Taylor Ruscillo (Carle Place, N.Y.) raced through the circle and was one-on-one with junior Ericka Parks (Nesconset, N.Y.) and the keeper came out to meet her, but Ruscillo dished the ball to De Vroey on the left side and the rookie had an open cage to record her first career goal for the 3-1 deficit.

Sophomore Meghan Largo (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) had a good chance late to get the Jackets closer, but her bid was stuffed by Parks in the 69th minute.

Parks stopped two shots in the victory while freshman Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.) made seven saves in the setback.

The hosts outshot the visitors 14-3 (10-2 SOG) while the Jackets held the 7-5 lead in penalty corners.

AIC will conclude the season at home with their next two contests being played at Abdow Field starting with a 5 p.m. contest against Saint Michael's on Tuesday.
