Field Hockey Blanked by Assumption, 4-0, On The Road

WORCESTER, Mass. American International College dropped a tough, 4-0, decision to Assumption College in Northeast-10 field hockey action this afternoon from Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Greyhounds improve to 10-3 overall and 7-0 in the NE-10 while the Jackets fall to 3-10 on the year and 2-6 in conference play.

The hosts held AIC without a shot in the first-half and jumped out to a 3-0 lead of their own as senior Sarah Frahm (Salem, N.H.) potted the opening goal in the 10th minute before assisting junior Meghan Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) on a goal in the 22nd minute.

Senior Allison Juneau (Auburn, Mass.) capped the first period scoring as she found the back of the cage in the 25th minute for the 3-0 advantage.

Assumption outshot AIC 10-0 in the opening stanza and attempted seven penalty corners.

Then coming out of the break senior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, R.I.) made the score 4-0 with a penalty stroke in the 40th minute to set the all-time program record at Assumption for points with 93 for her career.

American International almost got on the board in the 53rd minute off a penalty corner as senior Erica McLean (Branford, Conn.) inserted the ball to junior Katie Lombardozzi (Leominster, Mass.) who sent one on cage but the goalie got the pads to it and kicked it away.

Just over a minute later freshman Amanda Dube (Mechanic Falls, Maine) also had a scoring chance but again it was turned aside by sophomore keeper Bridget Boyle (Stow, Mass.) to preserve the shutout.

Boyle made four saves as she improves to 9-3 on the year while freshman Taylor Ross (Stroudsburg, Pa.) falls to 2-7 in the setback after stopping 13 shots.

The hosts outshot the visitors 28-4 (17-4 SOG) and also led in penalty corners 16-6.

AIC will remain on the road as they travel to Saint Anselm on Saturday for a 1 p.m. affair.
