AIC Yellow Jackets at Assumption Greyhounds
Thursday, Sept. 4 | 7 p.m.
Multi-Sport Stadium | Worcester, Mass.
SETTING THE SCENE: The defending Northeast-10 Champion American International Yellow Jackets (0-0, 0-0 NE-10) open its 2014 campaign with an in-conference, road test at Assumption College (0-0, 0-0 NE-10).
ABOUT THE YELLOW JACKETS: Fresh off their first conference title since 2008, AIC seeks similar success this season, returning 9-of-10 All-Conference selections from last year. AIC earned a berth into the NCAA Championship Tournament and finished the season with a 9-3, 8-1 league record.
Senior quarterback Kevin Arduino (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Jaquawne Simpkins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) return as the reigning Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
THE MATCHUP: AIC has won seven of the last nine meetings with Assumption, but the Greyhounds snapped a three-game skid last season.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Maurice Easterling (Yonkers, N.Y.) rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns, but 10 unanswered Greyhound points in the fourth, including a go-ahead 44 yard field goal, doomed AIC late in a 26-23 loss.
In a back-and-forth contest, AIC was never able to put Assumption away, losing the ball on four fumbles and missing two field goals.
Simpkins did not make the win easy for Assumption, tallying 11 tackles, six solo, and breaking up a pass, while Demetrius Steed (Boston, Mass.) wrestled down eight Greyhounds.
