GARDEN CITY, N.Y. American International senior Dan Asselin (Chicopee, Mass.) knocked in the games only run in the eighth inning for the Yellow Jackets first Northeast-10 Divisional Sunday over Adelphi University, 1-0.
With the win AIC improved to 6-10 and 1-0 in their NE-10 division, while with the loss Adelphi falls to 7-10.
With classmate Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) and Eddie Ritch (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) on, Asselin singled to center field, plating Ritch for the only run of the day.
AIC recorded seven hits and left an equal amount of runners on base. Sophomore righty Harrison Paige (Springfield, Mass.) went the distance, striking out three and walking just one.
Adelphi had runners on second and third in the ninth with one out before a groundout and throw out to second ended an chance of a Panther rally.
Panther pitcher Chris Lemorocco struck out eight over eight innings, but allowed the game winning run before getting pulled after the eighth.
The Yellow Jackets return to Adelphi tomorrow for a double header starting at 1 p.m.
