SPRINGFIELD, Mass. American International senior forward Jenna Masionis (Ashland, Mass.) tied it up in the seventh minute, but fourth ranked LIU Post tacked on three more in a Northeast-10 showdown Wednesday afternoon at Abdow Field, 4-1.
With the loss AIC falls to 10-7 and 6-4 in conference play, while with the win the Pioneers improve to 15-2 overall and 10-1 in the NE-10.
After a quick Pioneer goal by senior forward Lyn-Marie Wilson (Bridgetown, Barbados), Masionis scored her 18th of the season, hitting a gap up the middle of the field and beating the keeper who was too far out of the cage.
Post did not wait long to get the edge back. Junior Keliann Margiotta (Sewell, N.J.) launched a shot at AIC netminder Ainslee Penfield (Greenfield, Mass.) who made the save, but senior forward Stephanie Ruhle (Wanaque, N.J.) was there to put in the eventual game-winner.
Masionis and fellow senior Amanda Johannes (Killingworth, Conn.) were the only Jackets to put one on cage. Post outshot American International 21-8 total and 11-3 on net. Penfield made seven saves in the loss.
AIC ends the regular season at home Saturday against Saint Anselm. Prior to the 6 p.m. start, the Yellow Jackets will honor its three seniors, Johannes, Masionis and Jacqueline Millard (Nassau, N.Y.) for their contributions to AIC Athletics over the years.
