Yellow Jackets Come Up Short against LIU Post, 5-4

LANTANA, Fla. – The American International College baseball team dropped a 5-4 decision against LIU Post on Thursday morning. The Yellow Jackets move to 4-3 overall, while the Pioneers are now 6-8 overall.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the first inning as sophomore Mike Coyne (El Cajon, Calif.) hit a SAC fly to left field to plate senior Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) to earn a 1-0 lead. LIU Post knotted the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the first as sophomore Anthony Brunetti (Bayville, N.Y.) hit an RBI single through the right side.

Junior Dan Fenton (Agawam, Mass.) started the fourth inning as he singled to shortstop and was later plated on senior Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) SAC fly to left field. Junior Dave Clark hit an RBI single to give AIC a 4-2 lead.

Junior Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) and senior Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) both singled up the middle in the bottom of the seventh for the Pioneers. Iacono was plated when freshman John Bellock (Glen Cove, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch, and Chenicek crossed home plate on freshman David Grovenveld's (Centerreach, N.Y.) single to center field.

LIU Post went on to earn a 5-4 victory over AIC.

Freshman Jeff Kraucunas (Enfield, Conn.) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets as he threw 1.2 innings of relief and gave up one run on two hits, while senior pitcher Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) earned the victory for the Pioneers as he threw five innings and striking out 11 in the process
