GARDEN CITY, N.Y. The American International College men's basketball team defeated the Adelphi Panthers in their Northeast-10 opener at the Center for Recreation and Sport, 70-51.
With the win AIC improves to 3-3 and opens conference play at 1-0, while with the loss the Panthers fall to 0-3 and 0-2 in the NE-10.
After a close 30-29 first half Yellow Jacket advantage, AIC blew open the second, outscoring the Panthers 40-22.
Junior forward Marcus Porter (New Castle, Del.) led American International with 20 points, hitting six-of-seven from the free throw line and grabbing seven boards.
Classmate Bobby Harris (Berlin, N.J.) played all 40 minutes and chipped in 16 points, and notching six assists.
AIC dominated points in the paint, 36-16, using their size to create easy shot opportunities.
Senior Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) added 13 points, while sophomore forward Oscar Assie (Ansonia, Conn.) netted 11.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday, Nov. 26 for their home opener against New Haven. Tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
