Yellow Jackets Battle Huskies to 1-1 Draw

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey squad earned a 1-1 overtime tie against the University of Connecticut on Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center. The Yellow Jackets are now 5-14-4 overall and 2-11-4 in Atlantic hockey, while the Huskies move to 10-11-3 overall and 7-8-2 in the conference.

Senior forward Steve Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) put AIC on the board at 08:29 in the second period for a 1-0 lead off a dish from freshman defenseman Brandon Lubin (Commerce Township, MI) and sophomore forward Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, CO).

Sophomore forward Cody Sharib (Needham, Mass.) knotted the contest at 11:35 in the third period off a pass from sophomore defenseman Jacob Poe (Arlington, TX).

The contest ended in a 1-1 tie despite efforts by both teams in overtime.

The Huskies outshot the Yellow Jackets 40-33.
Senior goaltender Ben Meiser (Halifax, N.S.) made 29 saves in the win, while senior goalie Matt Grogan (Gilbert, Ariz.) stopped 32 in the loss.

AIC will return to action next weekend when they travel to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force in an Atlantic Hockey series.
