SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College baseball team split a Northeast-10 doubleheader against the College of Saint Rose on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets improved to 17-27-1 overall and 8-20-1 in the conference, while the Golden Knights moved to 15-29 overall and 8-21 in the NE-10.
Freshman Ryan Hooker (Poughquag, N.Y.) singled to left field to start the fifth inning and would later cross home to five Saint Rose the 1-0 lead. Junior
Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) doubled to center field and would later score to tie the contest at 1-1.
Senior Nikko Wahl (Oakland, Calif.) hit a two RBI double to center field to give the Golden Knights the 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Clark singled to left field to start the bottom of the seventh inning and was plated as senior
Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) singled up the middle. The Yellow Jackets scored two more runs at the end of the inning to earn the 4-3 victory in game-one.
Senior
John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) earned the win throwing 7.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits, while freshman Nick Venier (Kings Park, N.Y.) took the loss throwing 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out eight batters.
In game-two, Amate hit a two RBI single to left field to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Golden Knights had a strong second inning scoring six runs to earn the 6-2 lead to control the game. Five batters had an RBI hit during the inning. The Yellow Jackets scored one more run in the bottom of the ninth to come up short for a 7-3 loss.
Senior Nick Polsinelli (Guilderland, N.Y.) pitched a complete game allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out five batters, while junior
Matt Lee took the loss throwing 4.0 innings and allowing all seven runs on nine hits and struck out three batters.
