Baseball earned 10-3 Non-Conference Win over Bloomfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College baseball team earned a 10-3 non-conference victory over Bloomfield College on Thursday afternoon at AIC Park. The Yellow Jackets improve to 15-26-1 overall, while the Deacons drop to 21-17 overall.

AIC opened the scoring in the first inning when senior Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) hit a shot over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets scored one more run in the first for a 4-0 lead.

Freshman Kevin Caraballo (North Bergen, N.J.) hit a single to right field in the third inning and was plated by junior Jonattan Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) when he hit double down the right field line.

AIC extended the lead to 7-1 in the fourth inning as sophomore Dan Asselin (Bennington, Vt.) hit a triple to right center field and crossed home on freshman Mike Coyne's (El Cajon, Calif.) single to right center. Sophomore Dave Clark (West Springfield, Mass.) hit a deep shot over the left field fence for his first homerun of the contest.

The Deacons scored a run in the fifth inning when senior Emilio Fernandex (Woodland Park, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to plate sophomore Joe Meola (Maplewood, N.J.) who earlier in the inning hit a douvle to left center field.

Clark hit his second homerun of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the Yellow Jackets lead to 8-2.

AIC scored the last two runs in the seventh inning on sophomore Cam MacDonald's (Weymouth, Mass.) sacrifice fly to center field and Concepcion's single through the left side of the field. Bloomfield scored one last run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 10-3 victory.

Clark was 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored and 3 RBI for the day, while Concepcion was 3-for-5 with one run scored and four RBI. Coyne was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Freshman David Kerlejza (Unionville, Conn.) earned the win on the mound throwing 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits, while junior Luis Nova (Santo Domingo, D.R.) took the loss after throwing 3.0 innings allowing four runs and three hits and striking out two batters.

The Yellow Jackets will host the College of Saint Rose for a single game on Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest at AIC Park.
