GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The American International College baseball split a Northeast-10 doubleheader at Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 19-17 overall and 8-5 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets move to 12-22-1 overall and 4-16-1 in the NE-10.
Adelphi scored early in the first inning as freshman Donato Signore (Bronx, N.Y.) tripled to center field and senior Craig Matteo (Herricks, N.Y.) hit an RBI double down the left field line. Senior Justin Farnum (Glendale, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to center field while the Panthers pulled away with a 3-0 lead. Adelphi went on to score two more runs for a 5-0 victory in game-one.
Junior Dillon McNamara (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the victory for the Panthers throwing 6.2 innings and allowing only four hits and striking out four, while Junior
Matt Lee (Stratford, Conn.) took the loss throwing allowing four runs on four hits and striking out seven batters in 7.0 innings of work.
In game-two, Farnum hit a three run homerun to centerfield in the bottom of the first inning to give Adelphi a 3-0 lead.
AIC scored four runs in the top of the second inning to earn the 4-2 lead. Senior
Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) singled to third base and was platted on senior
Julian Concepcion's (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) double to center field. Concepcion scored as freshman
Mike Coyne (El Cajon, Calif.) singled through the right side, advanced to second on a fielding error by the right fielder, and advanced to third. Freshman
Lucas Vallas (East Northport, N.Y.) hit a double down the left field line to plate Coyne.
The Panthers scored three more runs in the bottom of the second to control the game at 6-4 before McNiff hit a shot over the left center fence to tie the contest in the third inning. Coyne single up the middle and later crossed home on senior Nicholas Devin's (Springfield, Mass.) single to center field to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-6 lead.
Adelphi scored three runs in the third inning to earn the lead the rest of the contest and would continue on for a 17-12 victory over AIC.
Coyne was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and one RBI, while McNiff was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Junior Jeff Andersen (Valley Stream, N.Y.) earned the win for the Panthers throwing 3.0 innings allowing one run on two hits, while senior
John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) earned the loss pitching 2.2 innings and allowing nine runs on 10 hits.
The Yellow Jackets will host the Le Moyne Dolphins for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest on Wednesday afternoon at AIC Park.
