Men's Ice Hockey Takes On Army In Home-and-Home Series

ABOUT AIC: The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a home-and-home Atlantic Hockey weekend series against Bentley University last weekend. Friday's contest was a 5-1 loss while Saturday was a close 3-2 decision. The Falcons had a 5-0 lead Friday until junior defenseman Nick Grasso put AIC on the board at 15:57 in the second period off a pass from junior forward Richard Leitner and freshman forward Nick Sandor. In Saturday's contest junior forward Steve Mele scored at 7:20 in the first period to inch within one and make it a 2-1 game. Junior forward Adam Pleskach scored on a shot from the blue line at 4:25 in the third period to make it a 3-2 final in favor of the Falcons. Junior goaltender Ben Meisner made a total of 58 saves for the weekend in net for the Yellow Jackets. Pleskach (12 goals, eight assists) and Arcibal (six goals, 14 assists) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 20 points each. Junior forward Steve Mele has eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. Sophomore forward Jon Puskar (five goals, nine assists) and senior forward Michael Penny (three goals, 11 assists) are tied with 14 points each. Meisner is 5-19-2 in net with two shutouts for AIC, with a total of 850 saves, a .909 save percentage and 3.28 goals against average. The Yellow Jackets have an overall record of 5-23-2 and are 4-17-2 in conference play.

ABOUT ARMY: The Black Knights enter the weekend series with an overall record of 5-17-7 and 3-15-5 in Atlantic Hockey, after recently dropping a series with the College of the Holy Cross. Friday's contest was a 6-1 loss, while Saturday was a 4-2 decision. Senior forward Mike Hill had a three point weekend for Army with two goals and one assist, while senior defenseman Marcel Alvarez dished out a pair of assists for a two point weekend. Junior forward Andy Starczewski also had a two point weekend adding a goal and an assist. Starczewski leads the Black Knights with 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points, closely followed by Hull with seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. Senior forward Danny Colvin is third on the team with three goals and 11 assists for 14 points. Junior goaltender Ryan Leets is 4-10-4 in net for Army, with a total of 524 save a .896 save percentage and a 3.32 goals against average.

ABOUT THE SERIES: AIC is 12-52-3 against Army, including a 3-3 tie in the first meeting of the season between the two teams. The Yellow Jackets earned a 2-0 shutout against the Black Knights in the 2009-10 season.

LAST TIME THEY MET: AIC skated to a 3-3 draw against Army on November 18, 2011.Nine players earned a point for the Yellow Jackets. Arcibal, Pleskach and Mele all found the back of the net in the tie.

NEXT UP: AIC will close out their regular season with a home-and-home Atlantic Hockey series against the Connecticut Huskies. The Yellow Jackets will host UConn on February 24th for a 7:05 p.m. contest at the Olympia Ice center before traveling to Storrs, Conn. to take on the Huskies at Freitas Ice Forum for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
