Late Surge Give Saint Rose 67-62 Men's Basketball Win Over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Visiting College of Saint Rose closed the game with a 9-3 run to record a 67-62 win over the American International College men's basketball team in a Northeast-10 contest Saturday afternoon at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-2 for the season and 4-2 in the Northeast-10 while also snapping a two-game slide. The Yellow Jackets fell to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in conference play with their second consecutive loss.

AIC appeared the be in control of the game after a 12-3 run gave the Yellow Jackets a 56-49 lead with 4:10 remaining in the game, but Saint Rose answered with seven straight points to tie the contest at 56-all with 2:53 on the clock.

AIC led 59-58 following a free throw from junior guard Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, Mass.) with 1:33 remaining before the junior guard Dan Mundweiler (Kansas City, Kan.) gave the Golden Knights the lead for good as he drained a pair of free throws with 1:05 left in the contest.

Saint Rose led 63-59 after senior guard Andre Pope (White Plains, N.Y.) hit a free throw with 11 seconds on the clock, but the Yellow Jackets wouldn't go away and pulled back within one after senior guard Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) drained a three with 4.6 seconds to go. Mundweiler was then fouled and hit both free throws with 3.9 seconds on the clock.

AIC then called a timeout to try and draw up the game-tying play, but the hail-Mary inbounding pass was picked off by junior center Dominykas Milka (Queens, N.Y.) at his own free throw line. He was then fouled with 0.4 seconds to go and hit both free throws for the 67-62 final.

Pope and freshman forward Tyler Sayre (Garnerville, N.Y.) both scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Golden Knights, while Milka posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 18 boards. Mundweiler filled the box score with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Braithwaite and graduate guard Sesoo Ikpah (Williamstown, N.J.) scored 15 points each to lead the Yellow Jackets. Hudson finished the contest with 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

The biggest scoring advantage Saint Rose had was at the free throw line, where the Golden Knights went 16-of-25 while AIC went 10-for-12.

The Yellow Jackets will look to get back in the win column December 12 when they travel to Molloy College for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
